30 Day Makeup Challenge: Pink Eye Shadow

I love pink eye shadow, but I know that it needs to be anchored with browns or grays in order to avoid that irritated or diseased look. I just love pink on my skin. I think it works because my skin has a golden tone rather than a pink tone, so there's a contrast.

I created kind of a mosaic of pink, starting with my Maybelline Color Tattoo in the new limited edition pale pink shade, using my Inglot rainbow pinks, which are matte, then adding Toasted from the Urban Decay Naked Palette on the outer edge of the lids, and Cocoa and Espresso from my Mehron palette in the crease and along the lash line. Finally, I used a bright pink on the inner half of the lids from my Crown Brush Kaleidescope Palette. This was one of the brightest shades I have. Not Sugarpill Dollypop bright, but pretty bright.

I used my Revlon Just Bitten Balmstain in Honey on the lips, and my Sleep Makeup Face Form in lights to do contour, blush and highlighter.

30 Day Makeup Challenge: Favorite Makeup Style

I couldn't decide between a neutral eye with cat-eye black liner and a red mouth and oh, I don't know, crazy duochrome lids or blue or green or anything else, so I took an unconventional approach. I thought about foundation.

Wayne Goss is a terrific beauty guru on YouTube whose videos are always short, sweet and straight to the point. He often posts videos that focus on just one key tip you can try out. One of these was to mix some concealer that matches your skin with moisturizer and apply that instead of foundation. I've tried this quite a bit, and I find it gives a very natural real skin look. You can then go in with more concealer and mask blemishes and under-eye circles as usual. So that makeup style is what I chose for this day of the challenge.

The concealer I used was Bye-Bye UnderEye from It Cosmetics, which I got in a New Beauty TestTube, QVC's quarterly megabox subscription. This is my favorite concealer. It works well under the eyes and on blemishes.

I find that when I apply the concealer mixed with moisturizer my skin does look more natural. My freckles show through, and yet most blemishes are evened out. I do need to add extra concealer here and there. I really love how natural my skin feels.

The moisturizer I used was Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentrée.

Since I was wearing my Giro d'Italia bike jacket, which I bought last year at the first Giro d'Italia Granfondo, I thought I'd do an eye look with shades of pink. I used my Inglot Rainbow pink shade, which is 119r, and I used Urban Decay Buck in the crease.

 

 

This is such a simple look for day, just monochromatic and elegant, and perfect for a casual Friday!

My Week in Faces

Hello, Beauty Fans!

Happy Friday, Everyone!

How much do you change up your makeup routine from day to day? It's risky to try new stuff. You might not get it right. You might be having an extreme moment in the morning and end up at work looking like Vampirella nowhere near Halloween.

I know folks who do the same makeup everyday, though. It's tried, tested and true, so they are really putting on their face when they are putting on their face. But if you do the same thing every day, how do you stay current? How do you stay fresh? How do you feel creative? I mean, sure, there are plenty of ways to be creative. I just happen to like doing that with makeup, among other things. So here's a week in faces in my life. Hope you enjoy!

MONDAY: BURGUNDY EVERYWHERE!

• I used the gorgeous Maybelline Color Tattoo in Fuchsia for the eye shadow base, and layered some amazing Inglot rosy and mauve shades over it. I blended the crease with a taupey gray, all from my Inglot Freedom Palette
• Oh, putting burgundies and pinks on my eyelids just never gets old to me!

TUESDAY: GRAPE LIPS, PALE GRAY EYES

• I was inspired to go gray on my lids by the Chanel runway show for spring. I usually go warmer with my neutral eye looks because I'm afraid cool shades bring out the deep pools of violet on either side of the bridge of my nose. The crease shade was a warm brown, to be fair. I do like this one. The shades are all from the NYX "butt" naked palette.
• The deep grapey shade on the lips was a real risk. So dark. So blue. This was the darkest of the Kate Moss Rimmel lipsticks, #4. This was my fall dark lip. Oh, yeah. I'll do that again. I think the key is balancing it out with some warm toned blush. This is the tried and true terra cotta shade from good ole NYX "butt" naked.

WEDNESDAY: NAVY EYE LINER, FUCHSIA LIPS

• This is a page out of my usual playbook. The navy eye liner and fuchsia lip is pretty usual, and it work.
• On the lids and in the crease, I used my new Kiko Origami palette in the greens, and I'm afraid my use of them made my eyes look a bit bruised, which wasn't so great. Gotta try that one again, and keep the greens near my lash line. Browns in the crease. When in doubt, browns in the crease, I'm-a-thinkin.'

THURSDAY: INTENSE GRAY EYES, PINK LIPS

• Loved the way the soft gray lining my lashes made my eyes look
• Needed to take more time to blend the shadow, because, "Damn!"
• Pink lips. Me. Typical. It works.

FRIDAY: BRIGHT RUBY LIPS: SMUDGED BLACK EYE LINER

• I used the Cinema Secrets pencil in Ruby over Two Faced Lip Insurance. The pencil costs $2, people! Get you one of these! So pigmented. Such a pretty cherry red. I put Revlon Balmstain in Adore over the top. OMG, I love bright red lips. Love.
• So, Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil in Perversion is every bit as powerful as I hoped it would be. Like the makeup equivalent of the Samurai sword. It doesn't move. It feels creamy and smudges like a dream. It's so intensely black.
• This face and Monday's are my favorites.

Cray Cray FOTD with Darling Girl Cosmetics

Sometimes when you least expect it, you get a much-needed chance to be a little cray-cray, aka, crazy. Today I started out with a dark eye look and added some periwinkle blue shimmer. And then they had these fun hair ladies at the company picnic next to the water balloon range and the ferris wheel. So I asked for a mohawk with some blue and green. And this is result. Awesomeballz.
