Smashbox Neutral Eye with Purple Sephora jumbo crayon

For this cozy day look I used my Smashbox Mega Photo palette, alas, discontinued by QVC. I like the cool browns in the crease and some peach on the lids, plus a touch of purple around the lash line using the Sephora purple Jumbo crayon to set off my green eyes. Some peachy blush and gloss and good to go for a Monday!

Olympic Edition: Waterproof Workout Makeup

It's the big day, everybody! Go USA! The opening ceremonies are tonight. And the cycling road race is tomorrow. Apparently if I wanted to I could get up at 2am and watch it on my iPad. We'll see if my home WiFi can really deliver that. Hmmm.

I am thrilled to see how London does their Olympics!

I'm headed to London in a couple of weeks so I'm reading London history and downloading Tube maps for my mobile devices and virtual guide books. If I have time I'll put together a post on what I'm bringing. I hope to have time to do a photo for that really cool "I am packed" blog that just shows people's stuff neatly folded and arranged for a trip.

But today I have for you a video about makeup you can wear when you are working out, or even when you are doing a race as long as a half marathon. That's the longest race I've run.

Before Tinker Bell Half Marathon January 2012

Why I Run Road Races, and Why Maybe You Should Too (Fitness)

And when I say race, I mean, sort of a stroll. The RunDisney races always have lots to look at, lots of characters to get your picture taken with. I never do these things to set records because, let's face it, I'm not going to do that, but to have fun and to test myself. And to give myself a reason to train. That's one way I try to stay fit. Try it! It works!

Race SWAG! Race Expo finds!

Plus, running an organized race like the Tinker Bell Half Marathon (sorry, it's already sold out for the 2013 edition, but Run Disney has lots more great races, so check them out!) is just exciting and fun. You get a little swag bag. You get a gorgeous medal!!! You meet fellow weekend warrior athletes, and there's usually an expo where they sell cute workout duds, and great tools to help you as a runner. Tinker Bell's Expo had all kinds of cool running things for girls, like gorgeous Sweatybands.com headbands that stay on, hold your hair back very well. So well the Olympic Beach Vollyball teams could wear them. But they also come in an amazing array of colors, patterns and textures. Seriously, you'll find one to match any outfit. Love! Have to get more!

They also sold wings you can run in with matching skirts and arm warmers. OMG! This year I'll definitely do a haul video on what I pick up. Can't wait!

Here are the products I used to achieve this waterproof look:

Eyes:

  • Inner Corner and Browbone: Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eye Shadow in 05 Too Cool
  • Eyelid: MUFE Aqua Cream in 13 (white gold) on eyelids from lash line to crease
  • Crease, outer eyelid "wedge" and outer third of lower lash line: MUFE Aqua Cream in 15 (bronze) Use a dense brush to blend this in quickly at the edges. It sets up quickly and then will not move.
  • Mascara: Smashbox Full Exposure in Jet Black, let dry, then coat with Anastasia Lash Genius, which makes every and any mascara waterproof! It works!
  • Eye Liner and Tight Line: MUFE Aqua Eyes Pencil in Black 0L
  • Eye brow: Milani Brow Tint Pen

Cheeks:

  • Apples: MUFE Aqua Cream in 9? (Hey, MUFE folks. First of all, name your colors to make them memorable, second of all, make it so the print of the shade doesn't wear off the packaging so easily.) A pretty coral pink shade you can also use on lips.
  • Contour: Jouer Luminizing Moisure tint in bronze. If you are darker than me, check out a nice matte brown shade in the MUFE line. It will last better than this probably will. This is just what I had to hand. I like how it blends, though.

Face:

  • The high SFF product of your choice that doesn't pill under foundation: Try Neutrogena Sport Face
  • Aveda Mineral Tinted Moisture in 02/Beechwood. I like a tinted moisturizer because anything heavier will run and get all over your cute workout duds.
  • Concealer: My fave is Dermablend in my shade, Sand. Try not to use this if you can avoid it. I, personally, need a bit of coverage.
  • Powder: Bare Minerals Mineral Veil. You gotta set the cream products
  • Powder Concealer: Bare Minerals Bisque. This will make your concealer not sweat off quite so quickly.

Lips:

  • Smashbox Limitless Lip Stain & Color Seal Balm in Sangria. Lasts at least 4 hours on me!!! But the name is too darned long. Smashbox, I love you. Explore the beauty of pithiness in the naming of your products.
Here's my video! Happy working out! Let me know if you test these products. I'd love to hear how it goes. Get up and get moving. It's great for your health, good mood, and well being!

Review: Smashbox Mascara and Lip Stain

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara in Jet Black
I recently ordered a mini-haul from the Smashbox site.  Here's what I ordered:
  • Smashbox Shades of Fame Reflection High Gloss Collection (Review to come at a later date)
  • Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara in Jet Black
  • Smashbox Limitless Lip Stain and Color Seal Balm in Sangria
Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara in Jet Black

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara in Jet Black: The Label

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara in Jet Black: The Wand
 THE MASCARA:
  • Goes on in thin layers
  • The wand, although large, isn't awkward to use
  • Absolutely no clumping
  • One coat covers all of the lashes on one eye
  • Virtually no smearing onto the eyelids!
  • The color is black, but I think could be a bit more blackest black
  • Multiple applications add drama; layering works
  • On my blondie-brown lashes, multiple coats are necessary
  • I would rather do multiple coats than try to separate ugly scary clumps, as I always had to do with my Stila Lash Visor Waterproof stuff
  • This mascara isn't waterproof, but later that night at a club, my friends played a really beautiful moving song about Moms, and I really cried, and it didn't run.  How is that possible??? NO TAMMY FAYE!
  • Verdict: 4.5 stars out of 5. Love this!!!

SMASHBOX LIMITLESS LIP STAIN AND COLOR SEAL BALM IN SANGRIA:
  • Love this deep berry red shade
  • Stain applies easily and with precision
  • Balm has a nice texture
  • Last 4 hours on me
  • Wish the Balm end retracted so that when I pull the cap off, I don't risk dinging up that nice smooth balm stick
  • Verdict: 5 out of 5 stars. This is the real deal.  The Cadillac of long-wearing 2-step lippies!!!
Just Mascara, Foundation, brow pencil, Sangria Lip Stain, and Cinema Secrets White Cream Shadow
Above, freshly applied mascara, and lippie.

In the golden light of my bathroom, the Sangria Lip Stain looks true red, although it's a more berry color in most other lights.
See those precise lines on the lippie?

After finishing the face at the office
An hour or two later, the color has settled a bit into the lines on my lips, but I don't know a product that doesn't do this. Color is going strong!

Copper Shade from my Pop Beauty Eye Shadow Palette, and some evident shine on my nose.
Oh, that bluish light in my office is hell on my dark circles!

Lip Stain/Balm at midday, 4 hours after original application.
Midday, and time for another coat of Sangria!  Not the beverage, the stain & balm, of course!

Weight Watchers Works!!!
Full Outfit: My pink is in the scarf. Weight Watchers is working! I'm only 5-7 lbs from my goal weight!
I love this scarf! These jeans are too loose! Yay!
My Pink Instagram. Toluca Lake is full of gorgeous pink blooms this time of year!!!

Dr. Brandt BB Cream with Flexitone from NewBeaty Testtube - SUCCESS!

So much better without that pilling. Now I like this BB Cream!
I had to try this fancy BB Cream again, and this time it worked.

See more in my Results section below.

For the Epic Fail Moment I had yesterday by layering this BB Cream over a night cream...argh, pilly face...see yesterday's Epic Fail Post by scrolling down and looking on the right.

Here's what I used for these looks:

Face:
  •  Skyn Iceland Soothing Eye Pen from my BeautyBar Sample Society March Box
  • Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Cream
  • Embryolisse  Lait Creme Concenté
  • Dr. Brandt BB Cream
  • Under Eyes and around nose: Dermablend concealer in Sand
Cheeks:
  • What, no NYX? I changed it up with: La Femme Blush in Coral Spice
  • No contour, because the deeper shade of the BB Cream was dark enough, I thought.
Revlon Persian Melon Moondrops Lipstick...love this color
Unfortunately, I think adding any gloss to the Revlon Persian Melon makes it dissolve within minutes, even with the Too Faced Lip Insurance. I have yet to try just the lipstick with the primer.  Maybe today. The gloss I used to top it here is Vincent Longo in Cherros, which is a gorgeous magenta shade with a great not too sticky consistency.

See how the Persian Melon and the Cherros are almost gone later?

Not my best hair day. I blame the chlorine from the pool swim.
I need to find some products to help with this.
Eyes:
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eye Shadow in Pomegranate Punk on lid to crease
  • Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips Pop Green Eyes the middle purple on outer edge of lids
  • Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips Pop Green Eyes the right-hand purple defining crease
  • NYC Purple Eye Shadow on Lash line
  • Smashbox Glitter Cream Eye Liner Palette the black shade along lash line above and one third the way from the outside on lower lash line
  • Blended the whole thing together with highlighting shade from my old Pixi palette, which I depotted into my Unii white palette. It's a soft peach pink with some multi-colored glimmer
on Left in white Unii Palette—Physician's formula Shimmer Strip Green Pop Colors. I used the light purple towards the top and the deeper purple toward the middle on my eyes. I also used that deep violet pan on the right, which is an NYC shade. And above the brightest pink in this picture is the soft peachy highlighter from my old Pixi Palette, which I used to blend the whole eye look together.
Lips:
  • Too Faced Lip Insurance
  • Revlon Moon Drops Lipstick in Persian Melon
  • Vincent Longo Gloss in Cherros
Results:
  •  The Dr. Brandt BB Cream did start to have those weird red and brown streaks in it as I applied it, but when I buffed it in, it smoothed out.  This has to be that Flexitone stuff in action, and the final tone was a bit darker than my skin, which you can see in the blue-tinged office shots above, if you compare my pale pale chest with my face. This will be great by summer.
  • Seems like the Revlon Moon Drops formula dissolves slowly if you apply a gloss over the top, so not doing that no more.
  • Need a real conditioning treatment to help me deal with that evil chlorinated pool water. Any suggestions?  Comment below.
  • All that purple manages to look neutral on me. But I think it also brings out the dark circles under my eyes.  But I love purple! Boo!
Cheers, and Happy Friday to all!

Quick FOTD - Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips for Green Eyes

Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips for Green eyes in white Unii Palette on Left
Sunset in Pasadena, and some nice 80s pastels on my face
Saturday night we were going out, and I'd finished my Tangerine Tango week, so I thought I'd go pastel and blue on the eyes for some fun. Again, one of my missions is to banish the notion that women over forty can't wear bright colors, or glimmery shimmery ones. You lose enough when you get older, so why should you have to give up all of those pretty shades?

The teal blue in my crease matched my shirt--which is supposed to be another makeup no-no.  Have I mentioned I like breaking rules? This shade set off the rosy pinks from my Inglot Rainbow hue #119R, which I used as a base all over my lids. It is a highly pigmented trio of pinks, and for all that, amazingly wearable. It brightens up the eyes.
Cool tones work well together, and play against the warm shades in my skin and hair
On my lips I used Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Pink truffle, which is a nice Your Lips But Better shade on me, but in the cool range. I was experiencing warm shade fatigue from all that Tangerine!
Pasadena is lovely. Nice Weather. Great friends.
My blush was Precious Plum La Femme powder blush. I still adore all the shades of these I have! This is a cool lavender-ish pink, which played well with all the other cool pastel shades.

To mess with the rules a bit more and, let's be honest, because I hadn't cleaned the brush since my last use, I picked the green shade from my Smashbox Cream Liner palette, and finished the eyes off with black mascara.

Happy Saturday out in Pasadena!

Face of the Day with Stila Lavender Eyes

Lavender Eyes Look with Bright Glossy Lips
With my green eyes, purple and lavender shadows can look really cool. They almost work like neutrals in that they don't call a lot of attention to themselves, but, since they are complementary colors on the color wheel to the green, they really make my eyes pop!
Stila Palette with Lavender Strip second from left
It's amazing how purple and lavender can work for day, and they also set off a bright coral lip really well. Although I did love playing with the blues, I have to admit, lavender is much more in my wheelhouse.

So here's what I used:

Embryolisse Lait-Créme Concentré
Moisturizer: Thank you, Pixiwoo Sam--This Embryolisse stuff is indeed a great moisturizer! This was also part of my The Makeup Show LA haul, coming soon to a Youtube near you. I'll post when I do.

Foundation: Skin79 Super+ Beblesh Balm. I still love this BB cream for the smooth finish and all of the nice things it's supposed to be doing for me, especially the SPF 25. The L.A. sun is strong! Well, not these days, but usually, it's bright and powerful!

My Unii Palette with La Femme Blushes
Cheeks: Precious Plum on top of cheekbones, and the contour color included with the Stila Palette under cheekbones and on perimeter of face. The La Femme colors are gorgeous, and I love that since they were so economical, I can afford to have this many blush choices!

Eyes:
  • Stila lavender strip as shown above. The lightest color from lash line up to browbone, the middle color in crease and outer half of lid, and blended together with a fluffy brush.
  • Brows: Anastazia Brow Whiz in Ashe Blonde
  • Mascara: Stila Lash Visor Waterproof in Black
  • Eyeliner: The black color from Smashbox's Metallic Cream Liner Palette, another The Makeup Show LA purchase, and one I am loving!!! The brush included in the palette is great for tight-lining, which is the best technique for using liner to fill in between your lashes and really feature your eyes.  Here's a link to a tutorial on Tight lining.
Lips: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter: Tutti Frutti and Peach Parfait layered together. These have such a nice glossy finish and feel like balm. They are fast moving past favorite in my world and heading toward Holy Grail product status. Joy!!!

That's it for today's look. Now go out there and have fun!

Cheers, All!
