Random Weekly Faces

Here are a few looks from this and last week, including todays simple classic look with a neutral eye, cherry glossy lip and winged out eyeliner.

I used It Bye Bye Under-Eye with Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentrée for foundation, a neat trick I learned from Wayne Goss's latest video. Check out Goss Makeup Artist on Youtube for more of his really helpful tips. Bit of a focus problem on these. Sorry. :(

For this eye I used my Tarte We Wish You Wealth palette, and I'm sorry, I don't know the shade names. You can't get this palette anymore, but on the lid it was a pinky shade with a bluish shimmer. Top row left on the lid. Bottom row second from right in crease. Second from top row second from left on tear duct. I love love love this palette, and I'm sorry because you can't get it. Every shadow except the medium and dark brown seems to be a duochrome. So subtle, though. This palette has some really nice glosses in it, too.

My skin is a mess. Stress? Hormones? Who knows. Yeesh.

This is Urban Decay Naked Palette Toasted on top of a whole bunch of matte neutrals from the Pixi Soft Focus Fresh on my lids. I love that bronzey taupey shimmer. This big palette has so many fun pretty neutrals. I love the gloss, and the blushes, too. Here's a picture of it.

Here's another of my faces from this week. Lots of fun neutrals from the Sedona Lace 28 Neutral palette. Kind of a fifties look with the winged liner and rosy cheeks. I love a minky brown shade on the crease like this!

And finally, here's a Burgundy eye look based on Maybelline Color Tattoo Pomegranate Punk. Yay for smokey eyes!

Purple Lashtastrophe

I tried my Sleek Drama Eyes purple mascara and it was so goopy! I tried to declump a bit with Anastasia Lash Genius, bit it didn't really fix the issue. Oh, well.

Check out this purple eye look done with my depotted Phyician's Formula Shimmer Strip Pop for Green eyes. These shades are lots of fun. I used my purple Eyeko eye liner pen, which is great at helping me make quick, clean defined cat eye flick. I also used the Urban Decay 24/7 pencil in Psychedelic Sister to tight line the upper lash line. Monochromatic all the way!

Tarte Carried Away Palette First Look!

Thought I'd try out the Tarte Carried Away palette today. The result was a stronger look than any I did this week. I wore this with a bright red blouse and the reddest of the Maracuja glosses that came in the kit.

I put Georgia Peach all over the lid from crease to brow, then did a gradient from inner to outer edge of the lid: Tuscan Sun on the inner third, Coral Reef in the middle third, then Acai Jungle on the outer third, and in the crease, blended up into Georgia Peach on the browbone.

Was a touch disappointed with the pigmentation of the Coral Reef shade. It looked so bright and pretty in the pan, but took some building to get impact on my eye. Maybe it's better wet, or over a base cream like the NYX jumbo eye pencil in Milk. Acai Jungle had a bit of green in it, which was a surprise, and it made for a more strong, makeup artisty type look. I think that Acai Jungle has a color shift from brownish burgundy to deep forest green. Definitely psyched to try more of these quads, so thanks to my sister Mary for getting me this awesome kit!

The rest of the products were pretty much the same things I used on the rest of the looks this week. The Tarte Maracuja foundation in light is still shockingly yellow to me, but just a touch of my skin79 BB cream lightens it enough to match my skin better.

Didn't have time to do my brows. Eek! My bangs hid it, mostly.

The Maracuja red gloss wore off within an hour, so I put on my new L'Oréal Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain in Endless Red. Have you tried these yet? I really like these! They go on wet, and once they set, they feel kind of like gelatin, lots of staying power, but they feel emollient. I think there's some alcohol in there, which evaporates and leaves that long-wearing soft slick feeling stuff. Once even that wears away, there's a stain left on your lips. Really interesting product, not like anything I've tried. Go check them out! I have the Lilac one, the Caramel one, the Red, and the the Coral.

Rainy Day Blues FOTD

Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoos are a great way to go with your eye look when you don't want to wait for your eye primer to dry. They act as their own eye shadow bases, but with color, so you can use them to anchor powders. I have these in nearly all the colors, except for the orange one, the purple one, which I saw on a few videos gets a bit streaky.

Maybelline has put some fun tutorials on their site to show you how to use these, and you can use several of them for one eye look as I did here. Here are the steps I took for this look. You can use brushes or your fingers, but be careful with these. They set quickly, so you'll want to have something ready to blend out the edges, be it a q-tip, or a brush.

1. Put the Limited Edition Teal, or plain old Tenacious Teal only in the center of your lids up to the crease.
2. Put Too Cool, the frosty white color, on the inner third of your lids and over your tear duct area.
3. Put Too Cool on your browbone.
4. Put Audacious Asphalt, the gray one in a wedge shape on the outer edge of your eyelids
5. Blend the edges of everything gently.
6. Pick a doe brown to put in your crease and blend this up toward the Too Cool on your brow bones. The soft brown color anchors the blue and makes it much more wearable for day. This is a pretty dramatic look, but the brown makes it not totally cray-cray. Blend, blend, blend.
7. If you'd like, put a shimmery blue over the top of the Teal to give it some extra excitement, although please note, I have hooded lids, so most of the time you only see what's in my crease and right at the edge of the lash line. The blue here is kind of a peekaboo color that is a fun little flash of brightness. Your makeup-loving friends will notice and say, ooh. Other folks will just say, oh, you look pretty and a touch more creative than usual. That's the idea, anyway.
8. Line your eyes with a deep blue pencil and blend to soften.
9. Whack on some black mascara.
10. Apply the base and blush of your choice. I picked my mauvey La Femme one, which is a cool-toned blush, and then contoured under my cheekbones to tone it down and, well, to provide contour to my face.
11. Lips are a warm pink shade called Cherish from Revlon's Just Bitten Balmstain line. You know I love these because they are glossy and they stain and the color lasts.

Hope you find this look fun. As you can see, I paired it with lots of cyan blue because it was a rainy day, and I wanted some brightness.

No Raccoon Eye Video for My Mom

Recently I had a chance to visit my Mom in NYC and have dinner for her birthday. We got to chatting about makeup, and she was asking about how to put on eye makeup so it doesn't move around and streak downward to create that dreaded Raccoon Eye.

I realized that since I got serious about beauty blogging in March, I've been doing lots of research on this, and have come up with some pretty good tips and helpful products.

So here's my video on this.

Apologies if I'm whining too much about the heat in my office during the vid. Could have been a hot flash. Who knows?

Wet n Wild 738 Comfort Zone Copper Look with Lime

Last Friday I arrived at CVS mid-restock, and picked up these great Wet n Wild Coloricon palettes that I'd heard Vintage or Tacky and EmilyNoel83 raving about. Love you girls, by the way!

Here's my first look, continuing this week's theme of neutral eyes with just one pop of bright color.

I used the colors on the left as labelled.  That label pressed into the shadow is a nice touch, and it means less thinking in the morning, when I am not always quite so awake yet. :)

With Flash. You can see that hint of green underneath.

Shot's a bit soft, but you can see how straight on, the copper color on the lid is subtle. So is the green.

Check out this gorgeous palette with these lovely shades.  Look at the depth of the color, and the duochrome look in almost all of them. Can't wait to play with all of the ones on the right.  Maybe I will today. Depends on what clothes I wear.

Duochrome: the magic word!

I put NYX's Lime jumbo pencil and their Slide on Pencil in 05 Golden Olive under the eye, and sealed it with the green eyelid shadow on the right. I'm a little disappointed that the green underneath didn't last until noon. Next time I'll hit it with the smashbox cream liner to see if that gives the color more staying power.

The Wet n Wild shadow is indeed pretty powdery with loads of fallout, and every time you dip in, you'd better give your brush a good tap to whack away the excess powder. But, as promised, each shade is very pigmented, and the shades are so complex, way more interesting than one would expect from drugstore eye shadow, so Bravo!
