MS Bay to Bay Bike Ride and Rainproof Look!

Hi, Beauty Fans! This post is going to be fairly different from my usual Face of the Day or sample-box-opening video. When I started getting back in shape physically after, well, forever, I did it by signing up for athletic events through my company. My company is very committed to community outreach and volunteering, so the athletic events I did had a fundraising and charitable element to them.

Through this one event, I got to know other folks who did other events, and I came to join friends to do the Ride to End MS, aka the MS Bay to Bay, which is one of many many events, including walks, runs and bike rides that take place all over the USA to raise funds to fight MS, a terrible debilitating disease.

This is my third year doing this ride, and although it’s 100 miles of biking in two days, it made my legs burn like crazy, and I was bone tired at the end, it was so satisfying. Not only is it a very worthy cause, it is a beautiful ride, even in the rain. The sun came out just as we were reaching the prettiest of the oceanside vistas. The volunteers are so wonderful, cheering us on, and reminding us why we are doing it. I recommend you check out this link to learn more about helping fight MS: nationalmssociety.org.

Dress-Up Looks

Had some more fancy occasions lately, so I've been playing with pretty purples that shimmer on my eyelids.  What do you think? I love blues and purples on the eyes with more neutral or warm lip colors.

Wedding look using Maybelline Color Tattoo Audacious Asphault and Tenacious Teal
Add caption
Based on Maybelline Color Tattoo Pomegranate Punk, with lots of Sedona Lace neutrals,
for going to an Italian food festival
I like this one, with its mauves, golds and bronzes on the eyes.
Look to go hear jass, based on Maybelline Color Tattoo in Fuchsia - Full Sun
...And inside
Random notes:
  • Still have to edit my latest Glossybox and Julep opening. Glossybox refused to send a replacement BB cream in a color closer to my skin tone, but it turns out my new orange Skin79 BB cream is too pale, so I've been using the Misha one to mix with it so I don't look so very white. They did send a replacement for the lipstick, which is a nice pink.
  • Getting ready to do the MS Bay to Bay ride, so lots of training on the bike, and lots of prep this week. Riders go from Irvine to San Diego in 2 days (there are shorter rides, too) and raise a minimum of $400 for MS research. Click here to learn more.
  • Been biking to work twice a week, which really saves on gas! At work, as I have to pull myself together very fast, I mostly use Wet n' Wild's Walking on Eggshells palette, with its frosty pink eyelid color, warm shimmering brown in the crease, and eggshell color on the browbone. It goes on so quickly and blends just with your fingers. Get this one, if you don't have it already! It is strong enough, but can still work with a brighter lip shade. Yesterday, I wore a bright corally red. Gotta say I still prefer a brighter or bolder lip on me.
So more to come, Beauty Fans! Stay pretty out there!

Swatch Saturday: Sedona Lace 28 Neutral Palette

Miss Pinktastic posted on this Sedona Lace palette and I ordered it right away. So glad I did. Check out my pictures.

All shadow names created by me so I can talk about the shades.

Enjoy!

Neutral Gorgeosity
With my crazy names
Freckle-Palooza under top two rows
Bottom two rows

Nice highlight shades. Puck and Kid Gloves have some shimmer.

Blending shades. Cameo is pinker with more shimmer

Eos is a soft shimmery blushing rose. Sorellina and Citrine have shimmer. Ipanema is just a pale tan.

These are lovely shimmery accent shades. Love Bordello's velvety quality.
All great highlights for lid and browbone. Each has a light shimmer.

Mouse is a nice medium tone to help blend out a crease color. The others are shimmery variations. Love the mauvey lavender tones in Lazarus, and the shimmering
sandy colors of Maximus (Gladiator fan, me!)

These would all work in the crease for me, with Sofia on the lid because it has shimmer.
It's nice to have such an array of medium dark browns.

Toast is a nice intense shimmery brown.
Took me 4-5 passes to make Carbonara look this dark.
it's not a black but a charcoal gray with a touch
of multi-colored shimmer.

PROS:
  • This palette has every neutral shade you might need, with nothing too brilliantly shiny. Even Mab and Bordello and Sofia, the ones with the most shimmer, are pretty subtle.
  • These are full-sized eye shadows, not the usual tiny dime sized domed pots, so you can get your brush into them and cover more area quickly.
CONS:
  • The colors aren't named, making it hard to remember and recreate looks you made on the fly
  • Some shades seem very similar to each other
  • Shades could be a bit more pigmented
  • Arrangement of shades could be more logical, i.e. shimmers separated from mattes; warm grouped together, cool grouped together.
BOTTOM LINE:
  • Very good value. Currently it's 14.95 on Sedona Lace's website.
  • Great neutral starter set
  • Great addition to my kit!
 GRADE: B+

Cheers, Beauty Fans!

Happy Birthday Fun Time!

Birthday Look 2012
Hello, Beauty Fans! Let's face it, gals, when you're over 45, as I am, birthdays can be a little daunting, bringing on crankiness, a maudlin attitude, and a rethinking of the whole 'No Plastic Surgery For Me' resolution.

So to make it all go down easier, I invite a few friends, find a new exciting bar, make sure everything I'm eating, drinking, and wearing on my face makes me smile, and try to look as fabulous as humanly possible.

Here's what I did with my look:

Hey, I EARNED these crow's feet!
Peekaboo Green Lids
So let me tell you what I wore on my face, and then we'll talk further about the festivities.

Face:
  • Embryolisse Lait Créme Concentré
  • Olay Wrinkle and Line Filler as primer
  • skin79 Hot Pink Super+ Triple Function BB Cream
  • Bare Minerals Mineral Veil
  • Cinema Secrets Peach corrector for under eye circles
  • Dermablend concealer in Sand
Wet n' Wild Color Icon Comfort Zone Palette
Eyes:
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • Wet n' Wild Color Icon Comfort Zone eye shadow palette: Crease color on left, duochrome (yay!) definer on right, green eyelid color on outer edge of lid, and orange eyelid color on rest of lid. So if you don't own this one, go get it! I love it so!
  • Ardell false eyelashes in #150 Demi. I love false eyelashes for vamping up a look. They are so old school and wonderfully challenging to put on. So feminine and romantic. This set is still a bit natural, and yet thick and dramatic.
  • Urban Decay 24/7 glide on pencil in Perversion. The best black gel pencil eyeliner I've ever tried. I applied it to upper lash line and lower lash line, smoked it out a bit with a smudger brush, and put some more of the Wet n' Wild definer shades over it to blend it even more.
Cheeks:
  • La Femme Blush in Coral on apples
  • Milani XL Bronzer in Fake Tan 02A as contour under cheekbones and around forehead and temples
  • NYX "butt" naked palette, the pink highlighter, on tops of cheeks
Lips:
  • Ellis Faas Milky Lips in L204
