Tarte Carried Away Eye Look

Today I was tempted to keep on using my new favorite palette, the Mehron E.Y.E. 207 with its rich buttery matte neutral shades. But I thought I'd branch out and use my Tarte Carried away palette instead. I used the quad that includes these shades:

  • Pearl River - a ballet pink with pearly blue shimmer
  • Seychelles Sand - a pale mink pink matte
  • Martha's Vineyard - a deep deep plum

I put Pearl River all over my lids, then started with Seychelles Sand in my crease, and deepened it with an outer V using Martha's Vineyard, which was plummier than I thought. It looks pretty brown in the pan.

Overall, I'd say these Tarte shadows are not as smooth as the Mehron ones. I love the subtlety and variety of shades, though. And this basically lavender gray eye shadow look is a nice alternative to the mauve and brown neutral looks.

I used the MAC Fluidline gel in Blacktrack for a slightly winged cat eye, then found I wanted to redo it using the Maybelling Eye Studio liner pen. I love how easy this is to use! It seems I have yet to find a holy grail eye liner. So far Makeup Geek's has my favorite consistency. I may end up just sticking to my eye liner pen from Maybelline. Milani also has a great one.

For the lip I went back to the Maybelline Lip Butters and chose Sugar Plum 085. These don't last on me more than an hour, but very few things do. I love how emollient it feels on my lips, which are so dry in this winter weather!

For eyebrows I was loving my Selma Hayak Nuance pen in Medium Blonde today. This one works as well as the Anastasia one, but costs less. On some days it has a bit too much red in it, but mostly, it's my fave. The one I own is a repurchase. I hope this line lasts at the drugstores. Not sure how well it's doing. I haven't seen many bloggers writing about it, or many YouTubers talking about it.

For blush I used the Sleek Face Form in light with a bit of my BeautyStar peachy blush from their latest box. Love Beautystar!

Have a great day, Lovely readers! Happy Monday!

Random Weekly Faces

Here are a few looks from this and last week, including todays simple classic look with a neutral eye, cherry glossy lip and winged out eyeliner.

I used It Bye Bye Under-Eye with Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentrée for foundation, a neat trick I learned from Wayne Goss's latest video. Check out Goss Makeup Artist on Youtube for more of his really helpful tips. Bit of a focus problem on these. Sorry. :(

For this eye I used my Tarte We Wish You Wealth palette, and I'm sorry, I don't know the shade names. You can't get this palette anymore, but on the lid it was a pinky shade with a bluish shimmer. Top row left on the lid. Bottom row second from right in crease. Second from top row second from left on tear duct. I love love love this palette, and I'm sorry because you can't get it. Every shadow except the medium and dark brown seems to be a duochrome. So subtle, though. This palette has some really nice glosses in it, too.

My skin is a mess. Stress? Hormones? Who knows. Yeesh.

This is Urban Decay Naked Palette Toasted on top of a whole bunch of matte neutrals from the Pixi Soft Focus Fresh on my lids. I love that bronzey taupey shimmer. This big palette has so many fun pretty neutrals. I love the gloss, and the blushes, too. Here's a picture of it.

Here's another of my faces from this week. Lots of fun neutrals from the Sedona Lace 28 Neutral palette. Kind of a fifties look with the winged liner and rosy cheeks. I love a minky brown shade on the crease like this!

And finally, here's a Burgundy eye look based on Maybelline Color Tattoo Pomegranate Punk. Yay for smokey eyes!

Tarte Carried Away Palette First Look!

Thought I'd try out the Tarte Carried Away palette today. The result was a stronger look than any I did this week. I wore this with a bright red blouse and the reddest of the Maracuja glosses that came in the kit.

I put Georgia Peach all over the lid from crease to brow, then did a gradient from inner to outer edge of the lid: Tuscan Sun on the inner third, Coral Reef in the middle third, then Acai Jungle on the outer third, and in the crease, blended up into Georgia Peach on the browbone.

Was a touch disappointed with the pigmentation of the Coral Reef shade. It looked so bright and pretty in the pan, but took some building to get impact on my eye. Maybe it's better wet, or over a base cream like the NYX jumbo eye pencil in Milk. Acai Jungle had a bit of green in it, which was a surprise, and it made for a more strong, makeup artisty type look. I think that Acai Jungle has a color shift from brownish burgundy to deep forest green. Definitely psyched to try more of these quads, so thanks to my sister Mary for getting me this awesome kit!

What do you think?

The rest of the products were pretty much the same things I used on the rest of the looks this week. The Tarte Maracuja foundation in light is still shockingly yellow to me, but just a touch of my skin79 BB cream lightens it enough to match my skin better.

Didn't have time to do my brows. Eek! My bangs hid it, mostly.

The Maracuja red gloss wore off within an hour, so I put on my new L'Oréal Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain in Endless Red. Have you tried these yet? I really like these! They go on wet, and once they set, they feel kind of like gelatin, lots of staying power, but they feel emollient. I think there's some alcohol in there, which evaporates and leaves that long-wearing soft slick feeling stuff. Once even that wears away, there's a stain left on your lips. Really interesting product, not like anything I've tried. Go check them out! I have the Lilac one, the Caramel one, the Red, and the the Coral.

Doing the Tinker Bell Half Marathon in ten days, People!

Hope you had a nice Thursday!

Loreal Infallible Endless Pearl Eyes FOTD

I had some CVS coupons, so on the recommendation of several YouTubers, thought I'd try the L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows. Got Endless Pearl and Amber Rush, since these were pretty close to Maybelline Color Tattoo shades I'd failed to score because some other more obsessed shopper had got there first.

I wonder, are drugstore makeup marketers aware of how some products become cult objects and get snapped up at CVS right on the Friday they go onto shelves? Target has had lots of success publicizing this kind of thing with their own designer capsule collections. I still feel like many folks I know don't know how amazing certain drugstore products can be. I think, down the road, I'll do a post listing my favorites. Hmmm.

Anyway, also thought I'd check out that nice brown shade from my MAC runway Spring Forecast palette. It's cool, and it blends pretty nicely with a synthetic concealer brush. I used a bdellium one I got at The Makeup Show LA.

I'm going to IMATS weekend after next on January 19th. If you're coming, too, comment below.

So here's what I used for this FOTD

Face:

  • Anthelios Primer with Sunscreen - Got this because I was worried I needed more coverage now that the sun's out again here in LA.
  • skin79 Orange BB Cream mixed with Dr. Jart BB cream to get my shade. Gotta go back to the Hot Pink version of skin79's BB cream. I actually liked that it started out gray and oxidized to match my skin tone. The orange one is way too light for me, and ends up looking, I don't know, a little Crypt Keeper? by the end of the day. The Dr. Jart helps tone down the whiteness, but this is a stopgap for now.
  • Applied BB cream mixture with a moistened Beauty Blender. It really does leave the smoothest finish
  • Milani Stay Matte pressed powder in Sandstorm
  • Concealer under eye: Cinema Secrets light peach shade sealed with Tarte Smooth Operator -- this stuff works very well and doesn't look cakey! This was from my Tarte Carried Away kit, which I got for Christmas - Yay! I'll be buying a full sized one when this runs out.

Eyes:

  • Lids: L'Oréal Infallible in Endless Pearl
  • Crease: MAC Runway Spring Forecast 2013 palette, the bottom one, a nice warm brown cream shadow
  • Lash lines: Same shade from above MAC palette
  • Milani brow pen in blonde on eyebrows
  • Maybelline Eye Studio felt-tipped liquid liner on upper lashline
  • NYX Slide-On Pencil in Tropical Green tightlined on top lashline, and over liquid liner to make that mutha green!

Cheeks:

  • Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Adventurous

Lips:

  • Tarte Maracuja gloss in Jena. Ugh--when companies give their products girl's names, I just cringe. Do you feel the same way? Comment below. Anyway, this gloss has a gentle minty feel, and the colors are so gorgeous. This one's a kind of pinkish terra cotta that is like a Your Lips But Better for me. It seems to last a few hours, which is pretty long for a gloss.

Hope you enjoy, Beauty Fans!

October Favorites, A Bit Tardy

NaNoWriMo.org

Hello, there, Beauty Fans!

Here's a video I finally got around to editing last night.

Writing a novel in one month is no joke, let me tell you, but that's what I decided to do when I took up the challenge of NaNoWriMo. NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month, and it's really fun to finally be hitting this lifetime list item! 1667 words per day, people! For a month! I'm doing it, and I think it's altering the pathways in my brain because I really feel different. For more info on this amazing process and how you can be a part of it, click here.

Enjoy my October Favorites!

Happy Thanksgiving Week! Do you think this video upload is a little late? Well, since I probably need to film my November Favorites like next week, pretty much, yeah. Oh, well!
